Experimenting

Experimenting with colour and how to colour denim. Also adding detail on embroidery around the pocket area, giving an idea on how the outcome may look.

Colouring the denim I used multiple ways to see what out comes I could come out with, I used water colour, pencils, water washing and lightly colouring the design. In the end I thought that the best technique to use was to water wash over coloured pencil, using this technique I was able to make the design going from dark to light making it seem 3D. I also added white pencil underneath for detail on the denim.

For my denim project I've been looking at embroidery, looking at floral designs, oriental, machined and hand embroidery.
The research for embroidery I looked into bloom magazines, oriental and Japanese books as well as some textiles books. I also drew ideas for embroidery, repeating the pattern over again on a piece of paper to view what kind of style and pattern I would of wanted on my designs.
I also added flats to the pages to show where the embroidery would be placed on the designs and how they would add detail to the garment.

Another must have

APPARATUS BUTTON-UP - black ImageAPPARATUS BUTTON-UP - white Image

APPARATUS BUTTON-UP

Another must have, comes in both black and white.
I'm loving the slanted cut at the moment but I do prefer the black over the white. With the white I think that if there were white clothing underneath rather than black then it wouldn't look so blocked.
But with this design I'm absolutely loving it!
MUST. HAVE. THIS.

You can buy theses at - http://store.wonderlandla.com/

I will worn you the clothing can sell out very fast so get there and buy!

Kat Von D

VAMP FLARES - maroon Image

Although Kat Von D is a popular artist and tattooist and an obvious person to choose but her clothing range in Wonderland is to die for.
Her range simple describes and identifies her style which I adore to bits.
ESPECIALLY these pants!!
Now I don't normally wear these type of trousers but these would be a must have! The perfect shape to the hips and thighs and the open flare at the bottom really elongates the legs.
...I may have to get these when the sizes come back in, only XS at the moment.

Further Development

For the final design I've decided to go for a sleeveless play suit. Here I've experimented with the placement of the embroidery. I've also experimented on another page with different fastenings, deciding whether to use all buttons, button and a zip or a zip. In the end I decided to use buttons and a zip to separate the bottom form the top.

The next image displays the final design as a flat as well as a close up of the design of the flowers for the embroidery that I will be using, which will be done by a machine for a better effect.

The denim I'm going for will be a dark navy blue, but doesn't need to be stretchy for the adjustment that will be placed at the back.

Design Development for final idea

My final design is a play suit.

Here I've experimented with adding sleeves, collars, bootcuts and darts. With the development I then moved on to designing an adjustment tot he back for flexibility, because it is made out of denim it may be hard to move around in. If I wanted to to make a design evolving sleeves than an adjust to the back would be need.

The adjustments I've designs are both elastic, one being obvious and the other being hidden underneath more denim, giving a cleaner look.
Either of the two would be useful to the garment.

Development of designs

I do apologies for the bad quality of the image.

This displays what I've managed to develop, with my mood boards I've taken the embroidery and used them as key detail in my designs. I've used the embroidery in different areas of the designs, around the pocket, on the bottom of the garment and around the waist.

I've also drew a close up on the areas where detail would be placed, both pencil and in colour. The embroidery shown is made up of flowers, I used pink carnations and heather ling. I also tried using pink swirls for the back ground but the ended up coming out like the cancer ribbon which isn't what I wanted.
So when designing further for my final idea I would loose the pink swirl and just use scattered flowers instead.

Denim boards

These two boards are my WGSN boards.

In the first board It focus' on embroidery and patchwork. When I first looked at the board once the images had been place I was more interested in the embroidery than the patchwork. However the style and cut of some of the designs with the patchwork I could work with in my designs.

The second board shows more on what silhouettes I'm interested in and what I may want to work with. I've chosen between dresses, high waisted jeans and play suits, the reason for this is because they would be fun designing embroidery into the silhouettes.

The designs I've are slightly similar with my own style. My customer is a 36 year old woman, art collector and seller who travels a lot. She has many experiences and skills, she's also an independent woman. With my designs I've tried to capture this, which I will show in my next post.

Denim Project

My denim project is all based around well, denim.
But there's more to it!
With this project I have to consider designing for a client, creating a theme based on the clients lifestyle and personality and then cooperating 'ladies in pink scarves charity' and 'Maggie's'. Because the project is also based around the charities I'm able to include pink with the denim.

The two charities are both about cancer awareness, support, centres and the patient's.
If any are needing support of any of the two above I do suggest them, they offer so much help and support as well as making you feel at home.
